Mayor Beaton presided over the first meeting held at the newly constructed Council Chambers at Warilla in 1969. Mayor Beaton officially opened Warilla Library and the Warilla Community Centre in 1976.
In 1968, a memorial plaque was dedicated to the bravery of the men from the 6th Machine Gun Battalion who lost their lives rescuing crew of the Cities Service Boston which ran aground during rough seas at Bass Point in 1943. Mayor Beaton presided over the service.
Mayor and Mayoress Beaton greeted Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip at Albion Park Aerodrome 10 April 1970, during the Queen’s official tour of Australia, commemorating the 200th centenary of the landing of Captain Cook in 1770.
