TitleStone Tool - Pebble ScraperObject TypeFirst NationsDescriptionThis stone tool scraper was uncovered by Shellharbour City Council outdoor staff in Shellharbour Village in 2008.
The scraper is made from a local river pebble and probably used over a long period of time. The scraper has been resharpened several times.
Flakes have been removed from both sides of the pebble. The sharp cutting edge comes to a peak or point.
The scraper retains one smooth rounded edge of the original river pebble for holding comfortably in the palm of the hand.
Tools were often refashioned for a different purpose, with smaller implements being created from the fragments when a larger tool broke. The process of sharpening and reworking an existing tool is known as retouching.
