In the 1940's Upton's sold their farm to Dunster.
Coal from Yellow Rock was used by households and local butter factories.
In 1969 Austen and Butta located earlier tunnels, driven by the Upton brothers and began work to reopen the mine. Production at the mine commenced in the Wongawilli Seam July 1971.
