Samuel Charles Atchison was killed at Arundel, South Africa on the 20 February, 1900 while on active service in the British-Boer War.
A marble monument was erected in his honour by public subscription 30 May, 1900. It stood on the hillside in Little Park, Shellharbour Village, until erosion made it necessary to move it to the flatter area in 1957. The Boer War Memorial was relocated to Caroline Chisholm Park in Addison Street, Shellharbour and incorporated with the WWI and WWII memorials, and the memorial to the wreck of the Cities Service Boston.DonorKretchmer, Graham
