When Daphne was three months old the family moved to Seven Mile Beach. Seven years later they moved to Toolijooa to work for the Pomeroy family, before moving again to 'Hazelmere', which was next door.
Daphne had four brothers John(Jack), Bruce, Ron, and Geoffrey. The Mayo children went to school in a horse and sulky and when the children got older they rode their horse called 'Lucy'. A photo of the four children was published on the front of an English magazine, the 'Manchester Journal' to show how children in Australia travelled to school.
Daphne attended primary school at Berry and Nowra High School. When she left school she worked on the family farm milking cows, and picking peas and potatoes.
Daphne met Doug Blow when attending church functions and Junior Farmers Shows, and they married in September 1944.
Daphne and Doug were heavily involved in community work and fundraising. Daphne was on the Bicentennial committee and wrote about the Celebrations. Daphne was involved with the Marshall Mount Progress Association and running the fortnightly Old Time Dances.
In 1997 along with Doug she was honoured as Shellharbour Citizen of The Year.
Daphne and Doug made many contributions to the Tongarra Heritage Society.
