Robert and family came to Australia and landed in Melbourne in 1857. His brother Joseph his wife Ellen and children (7 children) accompanied Robert.
After arriving in Melbourne, they boarded a coastal ship called the "City of Sydney" and sailed for Sydney. The families then went by coastal steamer either 'the Kiama' or ' Illawarra' to the Illawarra.
Joseph and family stayed at Dapto while Robert came to Shellharbour.
Robert and family leased a farm near Shellharbour and in 1859 Robert signed a petition to form a Municiple Council in Shellharbour.
In 1861 due to the Crowns Alienation Act Robert decided to buy land at Kangaloon and left
Shellharbour to reside there.
Robert and Margaret's children were:
Andrew Carson (A.C.) married Isabella Thompson and then Letitia Alcorn.

Elizabeth Margaret (Lizzie)
Robert Jnr. Married Ellen Alcorn.
Both Letitia and Ellen were half-sisters to William Alcorn. Their father was Joseph Alcorn.
