In 1841, William made an application to the Workhouse and Poor Law for assistance as their 3-year-old child was ill.
William Inskip, Maria and their six children came to Australia as assisted immigrants, from Maulden, Bedfordshire, England, on the 'Neptune ' and arrived in Sydney 11 February 1844.
Shipping records show William was a farm labourer and Maria a lacemaker. Both could read, and William was able to write.
William had a sister living in Wollongong, and that may have been the reason they chose to settle in the area.Of their children,

Daniel bn.1833 married Mary Ann Clarke.
Mary Ann bn.1835 married George Keevers in 1848 at Jamberoo.
Emma bn.1837 married in 1856 John Thompson.

Charlotte bn.1843 married Ralph H Hyland.
William and Maria had another child, Martha bn 9 January 1845 in Australia, and baptism records show they were living at Macquarie Rivulet on the Terry Meadows Estate, at the time.
In the Historical Electoral Rolls for 1855-6 William is recorded as having a leasehold on the Croome Estate.
William died in 1877 in Bega, N.S.W.
Maria died in 1888 Brogo, Bega N.S.W.
William, Maria, and their family came to Australia on the same ship as many others who settled in the Illawarra.
