Charles Inskip married Eliza Jane Pugh Nichols at Jamberoo in 1852, when Eliza was just 15 years old. The couple went to Braidwood to try their luck on the goldfields, and found enough gold to make Eliza’s wedding ring, which by the time of her death in 1923, was soft and misshapen.
In 1846, Charles and Eliza lived at Jamberoo, where Charles began a butchery business. Charles moved the business to Shellharbour c.1871 and is said to have employed nine men in his own bacon factory. The Maritime Strike of 1890 ruined the business, with 100 sides of bacon destroyed.
Charles signed a petition in support of Thomas Morehead Aitken in 1871.
In the 1899 petition to the government to form the Municipality of Shellharbour Charles Inskip is one of the many who signed the petition.
