NameEast DescriptionThomas East married Elizabeth Lacey in 1838. They migrated to Australia with their two daughters on board the 'Earl Grey'. An outbreak of measles occurred on the voyage and their two children died.
Upon their arrival in Kiama, they settled at the Waughope Estate at Jamberoo with their three children all born in Australia; Eliza born 1843, Emma born 1845 and Richard born 1848. In 1850 another son, James, was born.
In 1852, Thomas purchased 'Prospect', part of an original grant of 500 acres promised to Andrew Byrne. 'Prospect' is now the East’s Beach Holiday area at Kiama.
At 'Prospect' more children were born, John, Sarah, Mary Ann, Alfred and George, increasing the family to nine children.
John East married Elizabeth Jarman in 1875 and they had several children, including Percival John Walkden East of 'Ellerslie' Dunmore and Wentworth Lincoln East who died in 1917 at Belgium, during WWI
Alfred’s son, Augustus Milton East died in 1918, killed in action in France.
James East was an alderman of Shellharbour Council from 1895-1917 and served as mayor from 1905-1907. He married Eliza Elliott in 1874 and they had six children, James Russell, Maude, Stanley, Mimie, Daisy and Charles.
James and Eliza farmed mostly at 'Sea View' Shellharbour. Their son James Russell, married Anne Wenham. Their daughter Maude, married Edward Tate. Mimi East married John Johnston of 'Marks Villa', Albion Park, and Charles married Maude Whitfield
