NameLongbottomDescriptionEsau George Longbottom was born in Yorkshire in about 1814. He was convicted of stealing 150 yards of woollen cloth and was transported to Australia aboard the 'Asia' in 1833.
Esau had four known children; Jane 1849, John 1852, James 1854 and Esau 1856, with Catherine (Kate) Lippear, an Aboriginal woman from the Newcastle area. The couple moved to the Shoalhaven, and their children were born at Kiama and Bolong.
Esau and Catherine’s son Esau Jnr, married Mary Russell in 1877 in the Shoalhaven. Mary was the daughter of Ebenezer and Jane Russell of Croom.
Esau and Mary lived in both the Shoalhaven and Croom areas. They had several known children including Ernest Scott 1877, Esau ‘Pluck’ 1879, Frederick ‘Bailey’ 1882, Mary Ann 1883, Laura 1885, Ida 1886, Bertha 1888, and Reginald 1891.
Esau ‘Pluck’ Longbottom was a renowned South Coast cricketer and passed the love of the game to his sons William, Arthur, Henry and John.
