William married Ann Olga Hamline Glasson in 1892. Ann was born at Bathurst in 1865 to Gustavus and Ann Glasson.
The couple had four children Eleanor Olga, William Daventry, Phyllis Violet and Hazel Lily.
William Mann Thompson worked as a surveyor and engineer in Sydney. He purchased portion 68 Macquarie Pass, from William Roach, and on retirement built ‘Nurrewin’ on Macquarie Pass in 1902.
The impressive home was built from sandstone cut from rocks on his property. Builders and masons were all Sydney men who took about two years to complete the job. William began farming on the property which included an orchard.
In 1926 William sold ‘Nurrewin’ to Edward Thomas, mining Surveyor and brother of Harry Thomas of the adjoining property ‘Clover Hill’. In 1933 Edward sold ‘Nurrewin’ to his nephew Kenneth Thomas son of Harry.
After several owners ‘Nurrewin’ became ownership of NPWS, Macquarie Pass National Park in 1969.
