NameRoartyDescriptionEdward Roarty came to Australia from County Donegal, Ireland in 1861. Two years later he had saved enough money to pay for his fiancee to come out to Australia.
Mary Dillon was from County Clare. She arrived in about 1863, and they were married at St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney, and the couple moved to the Bombo area, before settling at Dunmore.
Edward was a skilled builder and worked on building the second stage of Parramatta Gaol. When they moved to Dunmore he helped build the extensions to Dunmore House and helped built the Jamberoo School.
Edward and Mary had six children; Rose, Sarah, Bridget, Anne and Mary.
Rose married John McEncroe and farmed at Rocklow, Dunmore. The farm was off the north side of Rocklow Road, in between 'Mayfield' and 'Anglesboro' farms.
Sarah married John Marley, Bridget married Fred Boyns (The father of Winifred Hambly), Anne never married, and Mary married Daniel Kenny.
The Roarty's home in Rocklow Road was named 'Donclare', a combination of County Donegal and County Clare, where the family originated from.
